President & CEO
Scott E. Latham serves as president & CEO of the Alabama Bankers Association, a professional trade association representing commercial banks doing business in Alabama with assets exceeding $300 billion.
Having served in this role since 1997, he is an active member and past chairman of the Alliance of State Bankers Associations, a division of the American Bankers Association, made up of the fifty individuals leading bankers’ associations across America. Latham has also served on the board of the American Bankers Association and as co-chairman of its Government Relations Council as well as its Grassroots & Advocacy Committee. Latham presently serves as past chairman of the board of the Graduate School of Banking of the South at Louisiana State University. In the arena of government relations, Latham serves as a registered lobbyist in the state of Alabama and lobbies at the federal level for the industry as well. He is a past board member of the State Small Business Credit Initiative, and served as a member of the transition team for then Governor-Elect Bob Riley in 2003.
Latham serves as Vice Chairman and a member of the board of trustees of Freed Hardeman University in Henderson, TN, where he also chairs the board’s Advancement & Marketing Committee. He is also a past board member of Agape of Central Alabama.
He holds an MBA from Auburn University in Montgomery, and a B.S. in Accounting from Alabama Christian College as well as a diploma from the Graduate School of Banking of the South.
He and his wife, Michelle, have two grown daughters and one son-in-law, and are members of the University Church of Christ in Montgomery where Latham has worshipped since 1980. He has served the congregation as an Elder since 2008 and was Treasurer for the previous ten years. In his spare time, he can be found enjoying yard work, cooking, and spending time with his family.
